A game I like to play in my free time is called Township which was made by the company Playrix. The game is available on:
Google Playstore: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playrix.township&pli=1
Amazon App Store: https://www.amazon.com/playrix-township/dp/b00ig2dokm
Microsoft Store:
This game is a mix of building your own town and farming game. The game itself is free to play but does have in-app purchases. The goal of the game is to clear land, build your town, harvest crops, and make goods in your facilities. In order to increase your population you need to purchase community buildings and houses/apartments/complexes.
What I like about the game is that the graphics are really good, I joined a co-op (well, really, I made my own co-op), and other people from around the world joined my co-op. I love that we have been able to get to know each other, and they have become like family to me. We chat every day about our lives; we laugh, we cry, and we vent. This game is my home away from home.
The cons about the game: I have a love-hate relationship with the minigame. I like the minigames because they can be easy tasks in the regatta. This is a co-op race with other co-ops. The goal is to complete tasks with your co-op. Each member that participates in the co-op can complete up to 15 tasks for the Gold League (this is the highest league). The regatta starts on a Monday and ends on a Sunday, and each member completes 15 tasks that they pick each day.
This is a new rule that Playrix has implemented recently for the 15 tasks a day, and Regatta is Monday through Sunday with no break. In the past, Regatta used to have only 15 tasks per week, and the regatta started on Tuesday and ended on Sunday. With one day off, each player was able to restock the items in their barn.
This new regatta system does not make any sense at all. For many reasons:
15 tasks a day are hard to keep up with, especially for those who work or go to school. The task board is a community board for the whole co-op. Each time a player deletes a task, there is a 30-minute cool-down period before the next task pops up.
Players can be waiting a long time if undesirable or low-task-point tasks pop up.
Remember how I said I had a love/hate relationship with the minigames? Most of the minigames (a game within a game) are matching games, and I really hate matching games; they are not my jam.
My theory is that Playrix uses Township to promote the other games that they have. For example, Playrix also makes Gardenscapes and Homescapes; both of these games are match games.
My other theory is that Playrix promotes other games and gets a kickback for them. No, I can’t prove it, but seriously, why are their other minigames so similar to games you can find in the app store?
My solution: I stopped playing the minigames and the regatta. With the new rules, the game feels more like a chore or a full-time job that I am not getting paid for. In the end, the yacht rewards do not make up for the stress and aggravation of trying to complete the 15 tasks a day. The regatta season lasts 4 weeks, and generally, I can get all the yacht club rewards in 1 week, making the other 3 weeks redundant. Playrix should be offering new rewards each week.
Overall, even with the downsides of Township, I do like the game. I can still fill my train, plane, and helicopter orders and fill other requests from my co-op and friends. I do think Playrix made a mistake by taking away the Race of Champions. In this race, the co-op works together as a co-op to complete the same tasks instead of individually, like in the regatta. The Race of Champions, I think, built the comradery between the co-op players and made co-ops stronger.
